Gerhard M. Horstmann-Wilke is a lawyer and Of Counsel at Clayston. He specializes in insurance law and specifically in US litigation and liability law. He began acquiring his extensive knowledge in this field during his legal clerkship at an American law firm. He then worked for more than three decades at Haftpflichtverband der Deutschen Industrie V.a.G. (“HDI” – later: HDI-Gerling and as a subsidiary of Talanx AG), from 1984 in the central claims department in Hanover, and from 1990 as US Claims Manager for a German industrial insurer. In this capacity, he successfully represented German medium-sized companies and large industrial enterprises in US liability proceedings for more than two decades in pre-trial discovery proceedings, mediations, and court hearings. After retiring in 2012, he joined Clayston (formerly WZR) as a freelance lawyer, dealing with international trade and commercial law issues (e.g., UN, EU, and US sanctions law) and is involved in various extensive arbitration proceedings (e.g. pursuant to ICC Arbitration Rules).
