Dr. Thomas Wilhelm Wülfing is a senior lawyer and senior partner of Clayston based in Hamburg, with more than three decades of experience advising enterprises on complex domestic and cross-border legal, tax, and transactional matters. He holds a doctoral degree in jurisprudence (Dr. jur.) and is admitted to the German Bar as a Rechtsanwalt. In addition, he is a Certified Specialist Lawyer for Commercial and Corporate Law as well as Tax Law and is also qualified as a Chartered Accountant.
Drawing on over 30 years of professional practice, Dr. Wülfing advises and supports companies throughout the entire lifecycle of national and international transactions—from initial structuring and strategic planning through to the negotiation and completion of purchase and sale agreements. His advisory work focuses in particular on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, conversion procedures, and expansion projects into foreign markets. His expertise encompasses the full spectrum of tax law relevant to such transactions, including post-acquisition reorganizations, cross-border structuring, and succession planning, as well as inheritance and corporate succession law for entrepreneurs and family-owned businesses.
Dr. Wülfing serves as the principal in charge of the firm’s domestic and international offices and holds extensive managerial and entrepreneurial responsibility. His long-standing experience as a managing partner, shareholder, and managing director of affiliated tax advisory and audit firms enables him to act as a partner at eye level for entrepreneurs, investors, and decision-makers, combining legal precision with a strong understanding of commercial realities.
In addition to his legal and transactional practice, Dr. Wülfing holds several prominent institutional roles. He is currently the President of the European Management Association (EMA) , member of the board of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Wehrtechnik e. V., information and dialogue platform with the support of the Federal Ministry of Defense, member of the Paribus Kapitalverwaltungs GmbH with a total investment of several hundred millions Euro, and German Member of the ITSG, a network of international tax experts with members in over 50 countries around the world, among other professional and charitable organizations.
